Photo Archive Help
Please choose an area below:
1. What kind of file formats are stored in the Photo Archive?
2. Searching
3. Navigating/Identifying images
4. Downloading/Mailing images
5. Creating a direct link to a specific Search Result
6. Reporting an Error/Asking a question
You can find photos (.tif, .jpg, .eps, .psd), animated Gif (.gif) and Flash animations (.swf) on this website.
The search system has two main options:
1. The first one is to browse for an image by using the left navigation
2. The second option is to perform a text/number search using the Search field at the top of the pages.
3. There is also a third option using the "Advanced Search" form.

1. Browsing by category
By clicking on a left navigation menu item you will find all matching images. Clicking the name of a navigation item expands the category showing all available sub-categories. When the arrow is grey there are no sub-categories.
The link "Collapse All" on top of the navigation closes all expanded categories.
When you visit a category, the category name is highlighted to give you a clear indication in which category you are.
2. Text/Number Search
This option makes it possible to search for images based on their name or number (reference of the picture in the Photo Archive). Enter a text or a number in the text box and press Search.
If you enter D00168, you will find the image with that particular number.
The search performs an "AND" search: If you enter 2 search terms = compact asphalt for example, the Quick Search will only display records containing the combination of both words in their Name, Caption or filename.
You do not have to write the whole appropriate name or number for your search. If you are searching for LF130 Honda, soil you may write LF.
But, if you want to avoid searching through dozens of pages, the more specific you are, the more precise your search result will be.
The same applies for image numbers.
The search engine is not case sensitive.
3. Advanced Search
Clicking the Advanced Search button, a window opens displaying a more advanced search form. This search makes it possible to specify in which fields to search:

Explanations about the available search criterion:
Name = name of the picture in the Photo archive (can be used even if you know part of it)
Photo number = reference of the image in the Photo archive (can be used even if you know only part of it)
Caption = short description of the image (enables the users to search by keywords)
Categories = items of the left navigation (folders)
Photographer = will be used only if you know Photographer’s name or part of it.
Indexing date = will be used only if you know approximately when the image was added to the Photo archive.
AND or OR operators
Important operators to tell the system how to consider the previous and the next search conditions:
By selecting And
you want to find Images matching both conditions of your Advanced Search.
By selecting Or
you want to find Images matching one of the conditions.
Example of Advanced Search:
“I need all records in the Pavers category that have DF somewhere in their names.”
In your Advanced Search, this becomes: Categories contains Pavers and Name contains DF.
If the results of your search are too broad, use the drop-down list at the bottom of the form:
choose Narrow Current Collection before you click the Search button to restrict the search among the set of records already found via the previous search (instead of searching in the entire catalogs again).
Often, when you have made a search, more than one image is displayed. The images are sorted according to their indexing date, displaying the last added image first.
The Result Navigation Bar always shows the number of images found:
![]()
Eight images are displayed per page. Use the Result Navigation Bar to jump to the next page, or any other page.
Below each image is showed its Name and Photo number. To see more information, click on the thumbnail of the image to open the Information window.
This window:
From the Information window, it is possible to download the image in any of the given formats (see Downloading/Mailing images).
On the Search result page, you can check the checkbox next to an image name to add that image to "My selection", which is a collection basket that you can use to download several images at the same time (see Downloading/Mailing images).
Downloading is accessible from either the Information window, or the My Selection page.
Information window:To download a single image, the Information window is the easiest way:
Find the image you want, click on the thumbnail to open the Information window, then choose the format you need and press Download.
The following formats are available for download:
For Printing (300dpi, JPEG image in RGB)
For PPT (150dpi JPEG image in RGB)
For Web (72dpi JPEG image in RGB)
If you do not specify any option, the original file will be downloaded. The exact file format and specifications of the original are shown in the Information window.
Images are compressed into a ZIP-archive before the downloading starts.
My Selection:To download several images at once, the Collection Basket called "My Selection" is best:
Check the checkbox next to each image you want to download. When done, click on the "My Selection" button in the Top navigation to access the "My Selection" page. For each image, choose the format you would like. Then, you have the choice to download all the images or to send them by e-mail.
Please be aware that some mail-servers have limitations regarding the size of attachments in a single e-mail. Therefore try not to mail too many images at once.
Before the downloading or e-mailing starts, all images in your selection will be compressed into a single ZIP-archive.
Creating a direct link to a specific Search Result
When you make a search, you see the matching images displayed on the Search Result page. To share that Search Result, you can e-mail a URL leading directly to those images.
Click on the link - "Click here to make a direct link to your Search result". This will open up a new window showing the URL that you can use.

This URL takes the user directly into the Photo Archive to the images that were in the Search Result.
